The Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls is a memoir about the author's experiences as a child, growing up in a family that chose to be poor and homeless. Jeannette's father was an alcoholic, but when sober, was brilliant and charismatic. Jeannette's mother was an excitement addict, and did not want to raise a family. The Glass Castle won the 2005 Elle Reader's Prize and the 2006 Alex Award, given by the American Library Association.
